The purpose of this book is to provide an illustrated outline of the great diversity of flowering trees in the Genus Camellia. Comments and brief descriptions are provided for 199 named species, forms and verieties out of 280 estimated to be in the genus. Some species,such as C.japonica, C.reticulata and C.sasanqua, will be familiar while others,such as C.anlungensis,C.longruiensis and C.suaveolens are not.Little is known about the majority of the species presented here; however, now that these less-familiar species are being photographed, studied and planted in gardens, their horticultural merits will gradually become known.
