This fauna, being the first regional one of Delphacidae in China, consists of five parts: the first part outlines the geographic features of Northeast China; the second part explains the taxonomical characters in the classification of Delphacidae insects; the third part describes the Delphacid insects in the area; the fourth part summarizes the dynamics of three Delphacids infecting rice in northeast China; the fifth part introduces the collecting techniques of the samples, the rearing and preservation methods.
The investigation of Delphcidae in northeast China was begun in 1979. the investigated area include more than sixty cities and counties in Jilin, Lianning and Heilongjiang Provinces and Hulun Buir League, Jirem Leagus, Hinggan League and Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. More than 1,000 samples were collected. Among the total of 57 described species belonging to 37 genera in the fauna, 1 genus and 5 species are new to science, 10 species are newly recorded in China. Fifth instar nymph of 25 species are also described. Key to the genera and species are given. All the type specimens are deposited in the insect collection of the Nanjing Agricultural University.
