Systematic description to 268 species of 4 sybfamilies in Cyprinidae, Barbinae comprises 17 genera, 110 species; Labeoninae 20 genera, 58 species; Schizothoracinae 11 genera, 76 species; Cyprininae 5 genera, 24 species. Psilorhynchidae 1 genus, 1 species only. Homalopteridae includes 2 subfamilies, Homalopterinae 8 genera, 27 species and Gastromyzoninae 8 genera, 44 species.

To each family (or subfamily) , its definition characters, taxonomic history, new advances in systematic and phylogenetic studies are mentioned. To each species, morphological characters, geographical distribution are described in detail, taxonomic problems to some species are also briefly reviewed and discussed.
