The Present volume deals with a faunal of living fishes of two orders collected from the Chinese waters.
Two primary parts in the order Anguilliformes are given: 1) a comprehensive survey and 2) a systematic description. In the comprehensive survey, the brief history of investigation on the biology especially systematics of the order, main opinion of systematics of the order, geographical distribution of species in the order, brief biological characteristics and commercial value are included, respectively. 12 families are included in the order Anguilliformes: Anguillidae, Colocongridae, Congridae, Moringuidae, Muraenidae, Muraenesociadae, Nettastomatidae, Dysommidae, Nemichthyidae, Serrivomeridae, Synaphobranchidae and Ophichthyidae. 135 species in 55 genera are described one by one in the part of systematics description.
Two families are involved in the order Notacanthiformes. They are Halosauridae and Notacanthidae. Total 3 species in 3 genera are reported
