Pinus dabeshanensis Cheng et Law is one of those species that are endangered and endemic to China, this species was documented with second priority in October 1992 in the species list of trees which were the first time assigned to b conserved in China. This species was formally described by Professor Zheng Wanjun based on the first collection of this species in Yuexi County, Anhui Province, China in 1956. It was found that the natural occurrence of this pine is just limited in the mountains with altitudes ranging 700-1200m in the adjacent area between Anhui and Hubei Provinces. Th biological characteristics of this species is rarely known because of its very limited distribution only in the Dabieshan mountain area, however, the economic value of its timber is even greater than that of Pinus armandii Franch. P. hwangshanensis Hsia and P. koraiensis Sieb. Et Zucc. In wood properties.
