Implementation of the plan has proved that the building of the shelter belt networks in the Sanbei Shelterbelt Regions is a system engineering project. The intension and extension of this project, namely, all the relevant systems and sub-systems and various factors affecting the project, are inter-dependent and inter-transferable as well as mutually promotive and restrictive. To build up shelter belt networks of the ecologic-economic type, it is essential to apply the fundamentals of system engineering and to correctly understand and properly handle their interrelationship from the macro-, intermediate-, and micro-economic perspectives and according to their inherent laws, while guarding against one-sidedness or Unitarian approach. Special attention should be paid to he integration of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry, of soil, water and forests, of trees, bushes and grass, of shelter belts in different sizes and shapes, of different types of forests, of different varieties of trees and of forestry, industry and commerce.
"A Rising Green Great Wall" is primarily a photo album supplemented with necessary written explanations. It is an album documentary in style and very instructive in content. It collects over 200 pictures truly and vividly reflecting the difficult pioneering courses traversed and the successes achieved in building this project, as well as the mental outlook and experience of the builders of the Green Great Wall- the experts, scholars, scientists, technicians and the broad sections of the people- so as to enable our readers to gain a more systematic understanding of the necessity, urgency, feasibility and formidability of this tremendous ecological undertaking which draws the world attention. In doing so, we hope that our readers will understand better the green great Wall rising in the Sanbei Shelterbelt Regions and thereby show greater interest in and extend more support to the further progress of the project.
