In 1994, Monographia Rhopalocerorum Sinensium edited by prof. Chou Io was published, which was accomplished by forty-nine lepidopterists from all over China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. It is the most complete monograph on Chinese butterflies, including 1800 species and subspecies of 368 genera, among which 41 species and 43 subspecies are new to science. That monograph sets off a new upsurge for butterfly study. The studies on taxonomy, biology, ecology, protection and utilization of Chinese butterflies are growing vigorously.
