The conference is the follow-up of the First International Symposium on Continental Seismicity and Earthquake Prediction, which was held in Beijing in 1982. More than 300 specialists from nearly 20 countries and regions participated in the conference. The purpose of the Conference is to provide worldwide specialists engaged in earthquake studies and disaster mitigation with an opportunity get together in an international forum where ideas and information can be exchanged and possibilities to crack the tough nut be explored. 150 papers were accepted for oral or poster presentations, which mainly involved the latest developments as in continental seismicity, precursors of continental earthquakes, earthquake engineering and engineering seismology, and countermeasures for earthquake disaster, etc.
