The fossil charophytes of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic have been found very abundantly in Qaidam Basin. The charophytes from the Middle Jurassic to Quaternary and their biostratigraphic significance are described and detailed in this paper. The fossil charophytes were collected from 73 constructs and 213 main localities, and contain 24 genera, 221 species and types, among them, 2 gnera, 102 species, 8 forms are described as new. This is the first time to study systematically the fossil charophytes of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic in the Qaidam Basin.
