This is one of the Series of the Scientific Expedition to the Hengduan Mountains,Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. In 1981-1983, the Chinese mycologists participated in several mycological expedition trips to the Hengduan Mountains, between 23°-34°N, and 98°-104°E., where several mighty rivers, the Dulung Jiang(River), the Nu Jiang(the Salween), the Lancang Jiang(the Mekong) and the Jin Sha Jiang(the upper Yangtze) etc run almost parallel with each other for a certain distance cutting deeply into the rugged chain. Near the northwestern tip of Yunnan these rivers flow within fourty kilometers of each other. In this area, the greatest concentration of fungal species are found, especially in the eastern Himalayas and Hengduan Mt., most of these are endemic.
A great number of fungal specimens (especially the higher fungi) with their substrates were collected. An identification of species and studies from different aspects were made. Papers on new taxa and mycofloristic regionalization by different authors have been published in several Actae and Journals. Here in this volume are enumerated species identified by authors from different fields of fungi. Each species is recorded with its distributions, habitats, collectors, key to species if the genus more than 5 species and brief discussion if necessary.
The total number of species enumerated in this volume amounts to over 1813 distributed among 348 genera belonging to 81 families.
