Yunnan province is well known for its largest output of natural medicinal materials with the reputation of “kingdom of Medicinal Materials”. There are 6559 kinds of natural materials, including 6157 species from plants, 372 species from animals and 30 inds from minerals. So far it is underdeveloped, also needing our arduous efforts to turn this predominance to economic benefits.
The Yunnan institute of Materia Medica intended to compile a series of books named Illustrated Handbook for Medicinal Materials from Nature in Yunnan. Each medicinal material was illustrated with color photo, other Chinese names, morphology, distribution, medicinal part, herborization and processing, natures and taste, channel tropism, actions and indications, modern research information. The book is well organized and illustrated with perfect picture. It is therefore a nice reference book for researchers and teachers working in the medicinal field and is of practical value for medicine producing, managing and exploiting of medicinal resources.
It is expected that there are about 6000 color photos, 4 million words and 10 volumes included in this book series.
The fifth volume of the series of books contains 508 species of natural medicinal materials, each species with a color photo and about 600 words illustration on other Chinese name, morphology, distribution, medicinal part, herborization and processing, nature and taste, channel tropism, actions and indications, modern research, Scientific and Chinese Pinyin name index.
