It contains nearly two hundred kinds of plants on the PKU campus, organized in the order in which they bloom. The illustrated book contains not only scientific descriptions of the plants from a botanical point of view, but also essays of feelings and memories related to the campus plants.
Vice President of PKU Li Yansong addressed at the launching ceremony of the book, "It's the plants that make the beautiful garden scenery of Yan Yuan. With the increase of international communication, we focus more on creating a green campus. The book not only carries the feelings of the editors, but also guides the reader to better understand the beauty of the flowers and trees in Yan Yuan. It's the messenger which is going to guide more and more people to care about nature."
Academic Xu Zhihong also gave a speech. He said, "There are botanical gardens in many foreign universities that I have visited during my presidency. Though we don't have one at PKU, we have Yan Yuan, which in my heart is an extremely beautiful place. It was a pity that for so long we didn't have a book introducing our plants. I had always wished that we could have one containing not only a scientific introduction to each plant, but also the spiritual content of the campus."
