The foraminifera dealt with in the present paper were obtained from the Cenozoic deposits in the coastal region of Bohai. They contain 38 genera and 97 species and subspecies, including 6 new species. In Cenozoic age, this region had, short but repeatedly, been subjected to submergence. In the Palaeogene Fourth member of the Shahejie zu (formation), the Neogene Minghuazhen zu (formation) and the Quaternary Pingyuan zu (formation), the foraminifera are recorded as underlain and overlain by continental deposits. It indicates that in Cenzoic age the sea sometimes invaded into, and sometimes retreated from this region. In the early Tertiary age, some areas in Shantung, as being connected with the sea, proved to be lagoon facies, or estuary facies. The climate was fairly arid. In the late Tertiary age, the sea spread over some areas in Shantung where we discovered the deposits of the bay facies. In the late Quaternary age, the coastal region of Bohai appeared shallow sea facies and marginal marine facies, as clearly indicated by the foraminiferal assemblages. The climate in late Tertiary age was probably similar to that of the present day. In the late Quaternary age, the Bohai was more extensive, but the condition was much the same as today. Evidently, the discovery of foraminifera in this region is of considerable significance in the research on the Cenozoic deposites and in the exploration of petroleum and gas along the coastal region.
