It is known that China possesses approximately 500 species of mammals, 119 species of birds , over 320 species of reptiles, over 210 species of amphibian and over 2200 species of fishes, accounting for over 10% percent of wildlife in the world's total. More than 100 species of rare and precious animals are peculiar to or mainly found in China. By late 1993 there are 501 forest and wildlife reserve in China, among which 77 are at state level . This photo album supplemented with necessary written explanations truly and vividly reflects the general picture of China's nature reserves. This is an album documentary in style and very instructive in content, providing an important reference material for decision making , scientific research, propagation, education, international exchange and art appreciation.
