Based on new investigation and integrated analysis of the original data, the atlas makes up itself a complete system and reflects the whole migration and transformation process of nutrient elements from rocks through soil and crops to human bodies with the help of the water carrier. Composed of 107 maps of various kinds on the scale of 1: 12,000,000, 1: 18,000, 000 and 1:25,000,000, the atlas mainly includes the geochemical map of elements (elements mainly in stream sediments, partly in soil), the hydrogeochemical map, the soil geochemical map, the geochemical map of vital elements for the human bodies, and the map of endemic disease and main cancers. Some maps are published for the first time in China, some are recompiled ones based on adding of new data. With quite complete biological-environmental-geochemical source materials characterized by full and accurate data as well as abundant and profound information, the atlas can not only serve as the basis of macroscopic regionalization but also bring to light concealed environmental problems.
