Contents and scope: The Biology Volume of the Marine Atlas of the South China Sea includes 360 maps describing the distribution of chlorophyll a and primary productivity , phytoplankton , zooplankton , fish eggs and fish larvae ,benthos and microbes and it reflects objectively the patterns of distributions and variation of various biological elements in the South China Sea.
This volume covers the area ranging from 3°00’N-26°30’N, and 105°30’E-122°15’E.However , due to lack of data ,local waters, particularly in the southern South China Sea , remain unmapped . It is expected to make them up in future with support and concern from the relevant institutions.
As to the maps of chlorophyll a the distribution at each water layer is confined by the topography at that depth except for the surface water
