Foreward---A preface with historical notes on IVPP publications
I. Tertiary fish fauna from coastal region of Bohai Sea---Zhang Miman
Described in this paper are fossil fishes collected by oil-field geologists as well as the authors from the coastal region of the Bohai Sea since the early sixties. Taken from oil-well cores, the materials include complete fossil fishes as well as isolated bones, scales, otoliths, pharyngeal teeth and fin spines. These materials have been referred to 3 orders, 5 families and 11 species. For purposes of comparison, the descriptions are extended to include Tungtingichthys gracilis from Hunan Province, southern China. Prior to the description of fossil fishes, a brief introduction is also given about corresponding skeletons or bony parts of the modern representative of the group under consideration.
II. On late Mesozoic fish fauna from Xinjiang (Sinkiang), China
A great number of fossil fishes described in this paper were collected from Northern Xinjiang by the writer and his colleagues of the IVPP, and the field Parties of the Bureau of Petroleum of Xinjiang. All the materials, consisting of several hundreds of specimens, were discovered from about twenty localities. Almost all of them were collected from the Shengchinkow formation of Tugulu group (Lower Cretaceous) of Junggar (Dsungaria) and Turpan (Turfan) Basins (table 1), and are assigned to six new genera and nine new species. Five genera of them belong to a new family-Siyuichthyidae (Order pholidophoriformes), the other one genus attributes to the the suborder palaeoniscoidei. Besides materials mentioned above, there are also nine specimens collected from the Chiku formation (M.-U.Jurassic) of Junggar Basin are refered to a new genus of the family Phoridophoridae.
