Silurian graptolite-bearing strata are well developed in Chengkou, south of the Daba Mountain in Sichuan Province. The graptolite sequence is one of the most complete in Central China. In 1944, Yang Jingzhi in his paper " The Cambrian and Ordovician sections of Tapashan , NE Sichuan", Only assigned these strata to the Silurian without making detailed study of the Silurian graptolites.
In the autumn of 1965, Liu Yingkai and his colleagues of the 2nd Geological Survey and Prospecting Team of Geological Bureau of Sichuan, Zhu Zhaoling, Xu Hankui and Yuan Kexing of Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Academia Sinica and the writer studied systematically the Silurian strata and collected a large number of Silurian graptolites from Chengkou. In addition, in 1965, Liu Yingkai and his colleagues collected many Silurian graptolites from Taiyanghe of Enshi, Hubei. All the specimens are described by the writer in this paper. 155 species and subspecies belonging to 27 genera are recognized. Of them one subfamily one genus, 14 species and 3 subspecies are new.
