Buckwheat has originated in southwestern China, where there are almost all species of genus Fagopyrum and the highest buckwheat genetic diversity in the world. The research group of the book author started buckwheat researches in 1994, collected cultivated and wild buckwheat resources native to Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Tibet in 1995,2003,2004,2005 and 2011 in a larger scale many times, respectively. At present, there have been more than 800 accessions of buckwheat from domestic and overseas. These resources were systematically studied in the following fields:morphology, taxonomy, reproduction biology, interspecific, crossability, isozymes, seed protein contents, seed protein subunits, cytology, cell molecular biology, DNA diversity and molecular marker mapping etc.
