The International Conference on Experimental Mechnics was held in Beijing, China, on October 7-10, 1985. It was co-sponsored by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Japanese Society for Non-Destructive Inspection. The participants, more than 200, were from China, Japan as well as other countries, including Canada, Egypt, England, FRG, France, India, Italy, Switzerland, USA etc.
176 papers were presented at the conference, 63 from China, 71 from Japan, and 42 from other countries. Most of these papers or abstracts are compiled in the present proceedings with about 1100 pages. They cover nearly the whole field of experimental mechnics such as strain gage techniques, photoelasticity and photoplasticity, optical methods, dynamic measurements, non-destructive testing, structural analysis and testing, residual stress and x-ray analysis, instrumentation, image processing technique, experimental mechanics applied to fracture mechnics and biomechnics.
Included in these proceedings are many of the latest results of researchers and new ideas and methods, which give a general picture of the recent developments of experimental mechanics in China, Japan, USA and other countries. Their publication will certainly be welcome and draw much attention from scientists and engineers engaged in experimental mechnics. These proceedings may serve also as a reference book for engineers, applied mathematicians, applied physicists and other scientists, as well as graduate students.
