Two specimens of the headrabbit puffer were collected from the Beibu Gulf,South China Sea in March and May 2010.These two specimens were identified as Lagocephalus lagocephalus(Linnaeus,1758)based on morphological and DNA barcoding analyses,and represent the first record from China seas.The taxonomic status of the species is also discussed.Specimens are deposited in the College of Fisheries,Guangdong Ocean University.

A redescription is here given for the notchedfin threadfin bream Nemipterus perronii (Valenciennes, 1830) whose taxonomy is still poorly understood in Chinese literatures. Its unique diagnosis is: snout short, obtusely rounded; suborbital moderately deep with a straight lower edge and a slightly rounded posterior end. Dorsal fin with a deeply notched interspinous membrane and elongated spines. Pectoral fin short, falculate, not reaching to near level of anus.

A new record of Dasyatid fish in China: Dasyatis laosensis(English)

One specimen was collected from the main course of Lancangjiang River (upper reach of Mekong) in Guanlei Port, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China in April, 2008. It is identified as Dasyatis laosensis, a new record of Dasyatidae species in China. It could be distinguished from other Dasyatis species by a combination of the following characteristics: one enlarged venomous spine on the tail, ventral surface of body with orange marginal coloration, tail length greater than body length.

A wild population of the globally restricted and highly threatened freshwater fish Tanichthys albonubes Lin was recently discovered on Hainan Island, China. Prior to the present study, native populations were only known from isolated pockets in Guangdong Province of China and Quang Ninh Province of Vietnam; the Hainan record thus represents the first insular and southernmost distribution of this little-known species.

Glyptosternoid fishes are a group of sisorid catfishes living in torrents of rivers mainly originating from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Based on our survey in the Drung River Basin, seven collecting sites were investigated and 271 glyptosternoid fishes caught belong to three species (Pareuchiloglanis kamengensis, Exostoma labiatum and Oreoglanis macropterus). Features of the distribution of the three catfishes were assessed.

Seven Danio species are found in three major drainages in South and Southwest Yunnan. Danio albolineatus, D. apogon, D. interruptus, and D. kakhienensis are known from the Irrawaddy drainage; D. cf. shanensis and D. browni, from the Salween drainage; and D. chrysotaeniatus is found in the Lancang Jiang of the upper Mekong drainage. Two more Danio species, D. laoensis and a small barred Danio that has not yet been formally described, were found in northern Laos close to the border with China.
