1.Strategies of Exploitation and Protection of Medicinal Pteridophyte Resources in Xunyangba of Tsinling(English)
by HE You-li
42 kinds of medicinal pteridophyte were found in Xunyangba of Tsinling, whole grass, rhizome or spore of which could be used in medicine for curing many diseases. Chemical components of pteridophyte were complicated, mainly containing flavonoids, steroid, alkaloid, phenols, triterpenoid compound, etc.. The research was performed to evaluate the value for exploitation and utilization of medicinal pteridophyte resources in Xunyangba through a broad investigation, as well as discuss the existing problem during...

2.Inclusion of the Eastern Asia endemic genus Sorolepidium in Polystichum (Dryopteridaceae):Evidence from the chloroplast rbcL gene and morphological characteristics(English)
by LIU HongMei ZHANG XianChun CHEN ZhiDuan1 & QIU YinLong
The taxonomic status of the Eastern Asia endemic Sorolepidium is controversial. Some authors accept it as member of the large diverse genus Polystichum, whereas others suggest that it is an independent genus separated from the later by the exindusiate sorus and the absence of aristate teeth at the pinnae margins. Here we infer phylogenetic relationship of Sorolepidium using DNA sequences of the chloro-plast rbcL gene. Phylogenies were inferred using maximum-parsimony, maximum-likelihood, and Bayesian infere...

3. Phylogeny and divergence of Chinese Angiopteridaceae based on chloroplast DNA sequence data (rbcL and trnL-F)(English)
by LI ChunXiang & LU ShuGang
Marattioid ferns are an ancient lineage of primitive vascular plants that first appeared in the middle Carboniferous. Extant members are almost exclusively restricted to tropical regions, and the spe- cies-rich family Angiopteridaceae are limited in their distribution to the eastern hemisphere; relation- ships within the group are currently vague. Here the phylogenetic relationship between Angiopteris Hoffm. and Archangiopteris Christ et Gies. was evaluated based on the sequence analysis of chloro- plast rb...

6.Formation of the Fertilization Pore during Oogenesis of the Fern Ceratopteris thalictroides(English)
by Jian-Guo Cao; Quan-Xi Wang and Wen-Mei Bao
The development of the fertilization pore during oogenesis of the fern Ceratopteris thalictroides was followed using transmission electron microscopy. The newly formed egg is appressed closely to the adjacent cells. There are well-developed plasmodesmata between the egg and the ventral canal cell, but none between the egg and the jacket cells of the archegonium.During maturation,a separation cavity is formed around the egg. However,a pore region persistently connects the egg and the ventral canal cell. The extra...

7.Ultrastructure of the Mature Egg and Fertilization in the Fern Ceratopteris thalictroides(English)
by Jian-Guo Cao; Nai-Ying Yang and Quan-Xi Wang
The ultrastructure of the mature egg and fertilization in the fern Ceratopteris thalictroides(L.) Brongn. were observed by transmission electron microscopy. The results revealed that the mature egg possesses an obvious egg membrane at the periphery of the egg. Furthermore,a fertilization pore was identified in the upper egg membrane of the mature egg. The structure of the pore is described for the first time. The fertilization experiment indicated that spermatozoids crowd into the cavity above the egg throu...

8.Cytological Events during Zygote Formation of the Fern Ceratopteris thalictroides(English)
by Jian-Guo Cao; Quan-Xi Wang; Nai-Ying Yang and Wen-Mei Bao
The cytological events, including nuclear fusion, digestion of male organelles and rebuilding of the plasmalemma and cell wall, during zygote formation of the fern Ceratopteris thalictroides (L.) Brongn. are described based on the observations of transmission electron microscopy. When the spermatozoid enters the egg and contacts the cytoplasm, the male chromatin relaxes continually. The microtubular ribbon (MTr) is separated from the male nucleus and then an envelope reappears around the male nucleus. Durin...
