The genus Calligonum includes more than 80 species of which 26 have been recorded from the Chinese desert area. They have been plaing a key role in the stability of desert natural and artificial vegetation ecosystem of China. This book is based on the authors’ 10 years of research in the genus Calligonum plants from northwestern regions of China. The findings are compred with the results of research that has been carried out in other hot deserts of the world. The focus of the book is on the taxonomy and germination of genus Calligonum plants. These include the taxonomy according to the results of numberical analysis and molecular biology, the variation in morphology and genetics, the influence of major environmental conditions on the germination and survival of Calligonum plants.
