Taxonomy and Distribution of Global Gymnosperms by Yong Yang, Zhiheng Wang, and Xiaoting Xu, adopts the most recent classification system of gymnosperms based on phylogeny. The book accepts 1118 extant species of gymnosperms and classifies them into four subclasses: Cycadidae, Ginkgoidae, Gnetidae, and Pinidae. A brief introduction is given of the taxonomic history and recent advances in our scientific understanding of the 12 families,with 85 genera,of living gymnosperms. Most significantly, it presents a complete catalogue of living gymnosperms including species names (Chinese names, scientific names and synonyms), IUCN red list status, distribution maps, altitudinal ranges, and climatic data. This makes it a complete reference of our current knowledge on the diversity of living gymnosperms species. Furthermore, the book provides 310 colour figures, displaying important taxonomic characters and distribution patterns of living gymnosperms, facilitating readers to identify and better understand gymnosperms.The book is suitable for researchers of taxonomy,ecology,forestry, agriculture, horticulture, traditional Chinese medicines, and conservation biology.
