The Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Plateau, known as “the Roof of the World”, has unique natural landscapes and landforms.

Using the method of contour-modeling showing different colors and various shadings, this map represents 13 types of major landscapes on the plateau. It also shows, figuratively and visually, the natural altitudinal zonality of each high mountain and range. In addition, there indicated on the map the plateau’s regional differences from the southeastern to the central and to the western regions of the natural landscapes which are undergoing the transitional periods from the forest belts to the alpine steppe belts and the alpine desert belts. Meanwhile, it also shows prominently the patterns and structures of high mountain ranges and montane systems, as well as the distribution of landforms, such as snow-capped mountains, glaciers, high mountains, gorges, lakes, flat plains and their combined characteristics.

This relief shade was drawed meticulously all by the handwork.

This map can be a valuable reference for scientific research and for teaching institutions.
