Using a sampling survey method, the Urban Investigation Team conducted a four-month (June-October) house-to-house survey in 1995 of 45 families with the 10th Group under the Lhugu Neighborhood Committee in Lhasa. All the sampled households answered the questionnaire, designed exclusively by the 100-Tibetan-Household Survey. Of the 45 respondents, males numbered 15 and females 30. the oldest is 78 years old, and the youngest 24, with an average age of 50.4 years. Of the total, 22 were aged or above, and 23 below that age.
The questionnaire’s wide content included marriage, family, enjoyment, occupation, income and expenditure, and living conditions. To ensure the authenticity of the survey, in addition to interviewing these families one by one, the investigators also double-checked the questionnaire responses by organizing group discussions and through individual conversations.
