Ceramics unearthed in Shaanxi fall into two major categories. The first includes the more numerous, white-glazed wares deriving from Sui and Tang dated burials, site remains, palace foundations, and hoards. The second category includes products excavated from kiln sites, with the majority coming from Yaozhou kilns. The special characteristics of Shaanxi ceramics are defined by where found and what they record.
