This book is a volume of series on “Crops and Their Wild Relatives “.It comprises two parts: Overview and Elaboration . The Overview part presents the information on categories and botanical ,cytological and agronomic classification, and theories of origin and evolution of crops . The Elaboration part includes 14 chapters. Chapter 1 narrates categories, diversity and significance of food crops and their general status on production in the world and China. Form Chapter 2 to Chapter 14,it discuss separately the general status on production, the major characteristics on botany and biology, the origin, evolution, dissemination and classification, as well as cultivar evolution and propagation technologies of rice, wheat, maize, foxtail millet, broomcorn millet, sorghum, food legumes, sweet potato, potato, cassava and buck wheat.
