《北京文物精粹大系》陶瓷卷，分上、下两卷。上卷内容为元以前陶瓷器；下卷除一件元人工琉璃三彩龙凤纹熏炉外，均为元、明、清三朝瓷器。两卷共收录陶器99件，瓷器364件。
本卷为《北京文物精粹大系》陶瓷卷（上），选录了元以前陶瓷器以首都博物馆藏品为主，北京市文物研究所、北京市艺术博物馆、北京市大葆台汉墓博物馆和北京辽金城垣博物馆、中国长城博物馆等单位的，具有历史、艺术、科学价值的精品，亦予以收录。
本卷选录陶瓷器，除北京地区历年出土的精品外，还精选部分具有较高水平的传世品，其中出土的陶瓷器122件，传世的陶瓷器71件。
本卷选录的陶瓷器按时代顺序为新石器时代、夏商至战国、两汉魏晋南北朝、隋唐五代和辽金五个部分，每部分又划分为陶器和瓷器两大类，各类再按时代顺序编排。
所选隋唐辽宋金历朝瓷器，聊目前尚难确定窑口者外，余多在器物前冠以窑名。
