This huge thematic Atlas provides a systematic and precise presentation, for the first time,of the spatial distribution pattern of plague in China and temporal dynamic law of palgue incidence in the past 200 and more years.Weeding through the old to bring forth the new,the Atlas summarizes the epidements;revealing and elucidating the epidemic law of plague within China's territory, formation characteristics of the plague foci and their relationships with environments,as well as scientific ways to prevent and control plague epidemics. It contains abundant basic materials and rich information which are characterized by crossing of multidisciplines;and brings into full play special representation of maps. The publication of this work is undoubtedly a historical event in the millennium and also a great contribution to the improvement of human living environment for the new century.
Plague is a kind of acute infectious disease with natural foci, epidemics in human beings and epizootic as well. Its origin, epidemics, occurrence and disappearance,as well as prevention and control are closely related with natural environment and human factors. The distribution of plague foci in particular,is obviously associated with chemical factors in geo landsapes relevant to calcium and iron abundance.Existing research results indicated that cacium and iron are the decisive factors to toxicity of Yersin Pestis.Hence the important discovery that geo landscape of both calcium and iron-richness is closcly related with plague foci has not only revealed, microscopically and macroscopically, the laws of formation, development and distribution of the foci, a brand new progress of great significance, but also displays the impact of bio-environment factors on disease and health, which is inseparable from impact of environmental chemical factors, a breakthrough in cognitive concept. It thus becomes possible for in-depth studies of environmental mechanisms for the formation of the foci, inference and prediction of the spatial scope of foci that might be existing or occurring, as well as the realization of preventing and controlling endemic disease with biological pathogeny.
This synthetic Altas of plague and its environment has not only systematically revealed and described temporal spatial distribution law and change of plague epidemic, reservoirs, vectors and foci in China but also elucidated the geographical distribution law and epidemic characteristics of plague in the world. It favors international exchange and to keep abreast with global research of this aspect;and to gain new discoveries and new understanding of the epidemic law of plague as well as formation and distribution of plague foci. The compilation of the following graphic patterns such s conjugate relationship of plague and environment, correlation of plague with geo-chemical factors, as well as nutritive pattern of Yersinia Pestis, ecotypes of Yersinia pestis and plasmid combination of Yersinia pestis is all regarded as excellent works presented for the first time to our readers.
