It covers, in successive sections, the centuries-old Jewish community in Kaifeng of which only a few, assimilated descendants are discernible today; the scores to hundreds of Baghdadi Jewish traders who settled in Hong Kong and Shanghai in the mid-19th century; the many thousands of Jewish migrants from the tsarist Russian empire and the Soviet Union who mounted to tens of thousands I the early 20th and the tens of thousands of refugees from the Nazi holocaust who flocked to Shanghai as a sole sanctuary in 1930s and early 40s.
