"A Manual to Identify Sichuan Birds"is compiled in the light of the specimens collected over the past years and the relevant literatures. This book consists of all bird species found in Sichuan up to now, including 19 orders, 61 families, 625 species and 142 subspecies.
In the former part of the book, series keys are separately arranged from order through family (subfamily), genus to species and subspecies in turn, according to the taxonomic system. All the morphological characteristics adopted are attempted to describe concisely and precisely, and to be used easily and conveniently. 110 illustrations are attached for comparison. Additionally, "Method of using the keys", "Ecto-morphology of bird's body" and "Measure of bird's body" are involved. In the latter part of the book, basing on sorting out the data and information from formerliteratures and checking vast collected specimen records, "Notes on the Birds of Sichuan" is composed, in which the occurrence period, altitude and vertical vegetation zones of each habitats are annotated, and the resident or staying status within Sichuan are analyzed and determined. So this book can be used as references for both beginners and professional staffs.
