Chinese Traditional Residential Architecture

Chinese Traditional Residential Architecture, a joint effort of local architectural societies in China’s 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, was organized by the China Architectural Society and represents the first comprehensive national research result in traditional housing construction.

Traditional housing construction, an important component of traditional Chinese architecture, is closely related to the daily life and production activities of Chinese people in general. Its flexible design, rational functionality, economic structure, simple appearance and close integration with the natural environment exhibit strong national characteristics and local styles and make it a valuable heritage in traditional Chinese architecture. Due to various natural and man-made factors, certain traditional housing structures have been altered and still others have disappeared. We diligently collected, collated, researched, summarized and bound this valuable treasure into a book to be handed down to future generations. It well be of great significance in efforts to carry forward traditional Chinese culture, and so doing is the main objective for publishing the work.
