Pteriina (Bivalvia Mollusca) is of great economic importance as a natural resource in the ocean of which many have been utilized and cultured as extremely important economic species. The present volume deals with the Pteriina fauna of chinese waters based on the collections made from the intertidal and sublittoral zone by the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese academy of Sciences (Qingdao). A total of 151 species belonging to 46 genera in 10 families is recorded and described of which tow species are recorded for the first time from China
This volume is divided into two part: Part one includes historical review, morphology, systematic description, geographical distribution, biology and economic uses; Part two presents a detiled account of morphological features, habitats and economic uses of families, genera and species. The scientific names for a few species are discussed and revised, and the keys to all taxonomic categories are given
