China possesses abundant turtles both fossil and extant. It has a fossil record ranging continuously from early Jurassic to Quaternary, and the living ones are also flourishing. The present monograph describes systematically all the species of this animal group known in China before 1991. It offered not only the diagnosis, locality and horizon of every species, but also the related biogeography, evolution , comment, even revision etc. in some cases. We believe that the data presented will serve as valuable references in study of turtles domestically and abroad.
