The Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) initiated the Farm Forestry Project (FFP) to foster multidisciplinary approach to solving complex land use systems problems in large rural areas of China. The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada provided financial and technical support. There has been over a decade of collaboration between IDRC and CAF in the field of natural resource management, particularly the development of farm forestry packages for integrated land use development in different climatic zones of China , ranging from topical, subtropical to warm temperate zones. A unique feature of the program is its integration of both the biophysical and socioeconomic aspects of land use.
