The mangrove comprises about 45 percent of the forest areas of Bangladesh. It plays an important role in the socio-economic condition of the coastal population. Bangladesh is a pioneer country with regard to management of natural mangrove forests as well as raising plantations along the exposed shoreline. In addition to tangible benefit, the mangroves provide considerable protection to the life and properties of the people against regularly occurring cyclones and tidal surges. In recent yars, there has been growing interest among the people to know about the mangrove ecosystems.
