This book deals with the progress of participation in forestry, especially since the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is divided into two parts.
The first part includes 9 chapters introducing the different aspects of China's forstry program.
Chapter 1and 9:background to China's long history of forestry and
cultural heritage, the forestry situation and the planning
for improving the participation in forestry in China.
Chapter 2: China's forest law, important policies and their effect on
the forest industry.
Chapter 3 and 4: The forest management schemes, participation in
forestry, and accomplishments in the plain and mountain areas
and that in the ecological forestry development.
Chapter 5 to 7: Participation in forestry in China, including the
cooperation between leaders, scientists, technicians and
farmers, integration of the forest research, demonstration and
extension agencies, and participation of different
organizations and groups of China.
The second part includes 13 chapters dealing with the participatory efforts in forestry in case studies.
Chapter 1 to 3, 6 to 7: Practices and experiences of participation in
forestry in several provinces of China.
Chapter 4 and 9: Participation of minorities in the forestry
management.
Chapter 8: Contribution of women in the rural areas to forestry.
Chapter 11 to 13: Participation process and achievenebts in the
ecological and forest protection and construction.
