According to over 20 basic sections in over 10 localities of nine provinces (including municipalities and autonomous regions), the temporal and spatial distribution of pseudogymnosolenid stromatolites has been discussed in this book in detail. Over thousand of specimens from the sections have been studied systematically. Based on the study of the genus Pseudogynnosolen and the abundant newly-procured practical materials, the writers suggest a classification scheme with six grades (Suprtype, Type, Subtype, Family Genus and Species) and a principle of nomenclature for stromatolites. Two new families have been proposed and 14 genera with 60 species wre described (12 genera with 58 species of Pseudogymnosolenaceae and the others belonging to Sinoconophytonaceae Correspondingly, "longitudinal and transversal section" method for studying of stromatolites has been set forward and the results of preliminary research on biologic base of stromatolites and their forming enviroment were introduced.
