Shinisauridae, is only distributed in Jinxiu, Zhaopin and Hexian of Guangxi Province of China, and habited in small mountainous brooks, nicknamed as "dog in the water", diving dog" or "big sleeping snake" in the locality. It is a rare and endangered species, and is preserved as the first class protected animal in China.
