Zhoukoudian (previously called Choukoutien) in about 52 km southwestern suburbs of Beijing is not only one of the most well-known sites of the fossil human around the world, but a classic region of one’s researching on the Quaternary mammalian faunas and cave or fissure deposits of china as well. Near 30 sites with plentiful vertebrate fossils have been disvovered in Zhoukoudian are since area the Loc. 1 was reported in 1921. during 1985-1987, geologists and researches from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) were working for the mapping of 1: 50000 scale in Zhoukoudian area. Of them, Cao Boxun et al. found the four localities yielding mammal fossils. These sites are situated in the north slope of the Taipingshan Hill and at Donglingzi village respectively. They are the East cave, West cave, Shangdina cave and Donglingzi cave.
