Hyperiideans are an important taxonomic group in the marine planktonic community. Their number, both by and by individuals, rank behind those of only copepods and euphausiids. They play a significant part in the food web of the marine environment and are often good indicators of oceanic circulation and water masses. the Hyperiideans of the western tropical and temperate North Pacific around China and neighboring countries are poorly recorded in literature.
This book provide a synoptic study on morphology and geographical distribution of Hyperiidea in the seas adjacent to China. Most original descriptions of Hyperiidea is compounded by the loss and damage of type specimens in many species. In this study, when possible, illustrate the lateral view of the whole animal and all pereopods, and the dorsal view of urosomites, uropods, and telson of both male and female speciemens of each species.
