The author collected and sorted out historical data in a calm and objective manner,starting with the oral accounts of people concerned and relevant historical records and works and the actual situation of Beijing .His account focuses on the controversies surrounding the planning and building of Beijing City in the past 50 years or more ,telling the stories of a number of outstanding architects and planners ,such as Liang Sicheng and Chen Zhanxiang.Many of the more than 300 illustrations contained in the book are published for the first time in China.
