Introduction: Over 50 specialists participated in compiling the book besides two chief editors, Professor Xue Wanqi and Research fellow Chao Chenming, a council member of International Congresses of Dipterology. The chapters cover 30 families. 660 genera, 4209 species of flies in Cyclorrhapha, and report 5 new genera, 268 new species. 4 new subspecies and 135 new record species in China. These findings are pleasantly surprising.
The publication of these new achievements results from many years' painstaking labor of scholars of Chinese dipterology. It fully proves that China is a country of both vast territory and biological diversity. Its terrain includes desert, grasslands, dense forests, low-flat land and high mountains of Xinjiang, Tibet, to Hainan Island in the south and Amur River in the north. Its climates vary from extremely hot to severe cold, and from wet to dry.

China' s insect fauna is closely related to those of surrounding countries. This reference for the faunal features of Chinese flies and their economic and academic significance will be of great help to the study of flies of neighboring countries. Flies of China will include two biogeographical realms. One is the Palaeacrctic Realm. The other is the Oriental Realm.

The book records the research history, feature, distribution, ecology and economic significance of flies in China. It also records their importance to health care and environmental protection, the prospect of their control, and index, beneficial aspects. In order to make the book more useful to foreign researchers, summarize have been provided have provided.

Flies of China will have a wide widespread influence in the world., and will make a valuable contribution to humanity and science. I firmly believe the book will promote the development of international dipterology.
