This book includes all the mammals heretofore recorded from the Heilongjiang province. It is a systematic generalization and summation of the knowledge of mammals in this province. There are listed 97 species, belong to 6 orders and 20 families. Under each species, there is given scientific name, vernacular names, diagnosis, morphological characteristics, ecological habits, subspecies’s systematic discussion, geographical distributions and its economic importance.
In recent years, many species of mammals are rare, especially some great animals of the woodland, reduced both in number and range of distribution in this province, because of over hunting and destruction of their habitats, such as the Tiger, Sike deer, Moose, Musk deer, Leopard, Sable etc., its present status has been given focal point of the records in this book.
