Here described in detail are well-preserved acriarchs from the Yehli Formation of Hunjiang Region in Jilin Province; the Nantsinkuan, Fenxiang and Dawan Formations of YiChang Region in Hubei Province, including 49 genera, 122 species and 3 new combinations. Based on the aspect of acritarch assemblages and combined with data of faunal fossils(i.e., conodonts, graptolites, ets.) the Yehli and Fenxiang Formations were deposited in the period from Tremadoc to Early Arenig and the Dawan Formation in the period from Arenig to Early Llanvirn. In comparison with known acritarch assemblages from Ordovician deposits elsewhere in the world, the acritarch assemblage of the lower Dawan Formation has a mixed composition, even if it shows a prevalent Mediterranean character. Based on the revised palaeogeographical map of the Arenig recently published by Scotese and McKerrow (1991), it is possible to make planations in discussing how the mediterranean phytoplanktic communities might extend up to the yangtze Platform and why there alcks relevant similarities in phytoplanktic assemblages between Mediterranean and North China. It is assumed that North China should be located in the northern low latitude area and close to northern australia, while South China was situated in the southern middle latitude area and its northern part(i.e., the present-day southwestern region of China) was close to southern Australia during the Arenigian period (see Tongiorgi et al., in Press).
