The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is the highest, largest and youngest one on earth well known to all people.
The Mesozoic and Early Cenozoic marine strata are well developed in Xizang, with very rich scleractinian corals. For a long time little was known about these corals from Xizang. Since 1951, a large number of scleractinians have been found from various localities therein. The scleractinian corals dealt with in this monograph were collected mainly by the comprehensive Scientific Expedition to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. the Geological Institute of Xizang, the 4th Geological Team of Xizang, the Regional Geological Survey Team of Qinghai and the 3rd Regional Geological Survey Team of Sichuan.
The fossil scleractinians described here comprise 108 genera and 221 species(including some new species
