The great success of the first International Conference of Fluid Mechanics held in Beijing 1987 persuaded the Steering Committee to propose the Second Conference and the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics takes the pleasure to organize the Conference again. In fact the ICFM-II has received strong support in fluid mechanics community. In addition to the original four CO-sponsors: Divisions of Fluid Engineering and Bioengineering of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of Germany, Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences; the Division of Fluid Dynamics of American Society of Physics, Japan Society for Mechanics and the U.S. National Committee of Biomechanics has joined us in the sponsorship. The proceedings contains nearly 200 papers from 24 countries and regions. It covers Flow Instability and Turbulence (38papers) , Aerodynamics and gas Dynamics (71 papers), Geophysical and Astrophysical fluid Mechanics (4 papers), Hydrodynamics (13 papers), Biofluide mechanics(4 papers); Physical-Chemical fluid Dynamics, Non-Newtonian fluid and multiphase flows(27 papers), plasma Dynamics, and Magneto Hydrodynamics, Industrial and Environmental Fluid Dynamics (24 papers).
