The Tibetan antelope is unique to China’ Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Its habitat is located 4000-5500m above sea level, in Changtang in northern Tibet, and Hoh Xil in Qinghai Province and the Altun Mountains in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Many other animals can hardly breathe at an altitude of 4000-5000m, let alone run, yet the Tibetan antelope can run 20-30km continuously at a speed of 60kph, enabling it to outdistance beasts of prey.Numerous people are concerned about this endangered species, and offer help in various forms. Some have even died for this cause. The efforts to protect the Tibetan antelope form the most heroic and stirring page in China’s history of wild animal protection.
