There are over 3292 known plant species in Beijing, covering 54% of its total area. It accumulates water source, supplements oxygen, purifies air, optimizes and beautifies human settlement environmnet, safeguards ecological safety, and provides food supplies, vegatables, fruits, flowers and medicinal materials for its citizens and domestic and overseas markets. There are 25 species under state-level protection in Beijing.
